Photography

All of my life I've loved looking at photographs. Although I've never really liked being in them, I could peruse through them all day. When I was a kid, I was never much of a reader, but I loved looking at books filled with pictures and illustrations. I would drift away and imagine what it would be like to see a castle in Scotland, or the skyline of Hong Kong from a boat.

I took up photography when I was 21. I got my first SLR camera for my 21st birthday. It was full-manual and I don't think I EVER got it to do what I really wanted to do. Then in 2004, I got my first digital camera. It was a Nikon Coolpix 4200. Things were never the same again.

I got my first DSLR in 2008, and in 2009 I got my first paying gig. I have two thoughts on digital photography. One is that before digital, photography was a true art form, mastered by very few after many, many years of practice. The other is that technology has allowed us open up and explore our creative side. Digital photography and image manipulation has allowed countless people to find their creative side.

I've put together this small gallery to display my work, my view of life and how I see it. I consider myself to be a novice at best, but I'm learning new things all the time.

Web design is still rather new to me. I took one class in art school and learned nearly nothing. The instructor still gave me an A...I guess for showing up to class. So I've been learning on my own with Blogger. This page is an experiment. I wanted to figure out a way to have a gallery as a dynamic page, but still also put it in the main feed. So here's the secret:  the slideshows are on dynamic page posts; the gallery is a static page; and the two link together. Sort of the best of both worlds. We'll see how it works.
